WHO ARE WE? Bridge of Hope is a Christian development organisation working with families trapped in poverty in the Manado region of North Sulawesi, East Indonesia. By assisting family businesses and facilitating community support programs, Bridge of Hope seeks to empower communities to build a better future. The beginning In 2001 a group of concerned Christians from Sydney's Northern beaches initiated Bridge of Hope after learning of the refugee crisis in the Manado region caused by religious persecution in 2000 and since. Bridge of Hope was established to allow an ongoing partnership between concerned Australians and those struggling in one of our nearest neighbouring countries. The next step Compassion for the refugees and their immediate needs soon spread to recognition of the poverty within the broader community. The group became committed to finding a way to bring long-term assistance in this area of Indonesia. The method Microenterprise Development (MED) was identified as the most practical, appropriate and sustainable method to help these people help themselves. The motivation Bridge of Hope was initiated in response to the command of Jesus Christ to love the poor and oppressed, regardless of religion or race. Bridge of Hope seeks to be a practical expression of God's love and concern for the needs of all people. |
